All UAE expats have to undergo the health fitness test, a routine health examination that verifies their overall health and the absence of any communicable disorders. Medical test check for infections including HIV, TB, and other communicable and contagious diseases.
When is a Medical fitness test necessary?
When they apply for a new resident visa in the UAE or work permit, ex-pats who are foreign residents of the UAE are required to take a health fitness test in the UAE. When foreign nationals apply to have their visas extended, the health test in the UAE is also required. Remember that only foreign residents over the age of 18 are required to take this test.
You have to take a health fitness test after submitting the visa application at the immigration centers in UAE.
After submitting your application and paying the required cost, you will receive a receipt that you can use to schedule an appointment at one of the medical fitness test locations in your Emirate.
All foreign nationals who want to renew their visas have to undergo a TB check. An ex-pat will only be granted a conditional fitness certificate if they are found to have scarred tissue or active, drug-resistant TB. This medical fitness certificate will be acceptable to obtain a resident visa which is valid for one year.
Where can I get a medical fitness test?
In the UAE, The relevant health authorities may conduct examinations to determine health fitness. Depending on your Emirate, however, the health authority you can go to for testing may vary. Following are the health authorities where you can get your medical test:
At Abu Dhabi, Disease Prevention and Screening Centres of Abu Dhabi Health Services Company (SEHA)
At Dubai, Dubai Health Authority (DHA) Medical Fitness Centres
At the Northern Emirates (Sharjah, Umm Al Quwain, Ajman, Fujairah, and Ras Al Khaimah) Medical Examination Centres governed by the Ministry of Health and Prevention (MOHAP).

There are certain steps for medical tests in Dubai and they are as follows:
Step 1: Fill the application form

Regular test for domestic servants, and households (24 working hours) – Dh300
Step 3: Get the Medical fitness test
After completing the application, you must locate a nearby medical fitness testing facility. On the same website where you located the typing centers, search for ‘medical fitness centers ‘to do that.
You must carry the following documents with you:
- Application form
- Original passport or copy of your passport, or identity card (mandatory)
- Copy of the residence permit
- Mobile number and email address
- Clear photograph
- For those who need to change their visa must carry a change status paper.
The results will be available within 24 hours after the completion of the test. If you haven’t received your health fitness test within five working days, you have to visit the medical fitness center.

Visit the medical examination center run by MOHAP for those whose visas are issued in Sharjah, Ajman, Ras Al Khaimah, Fujairah, and Umm Al Quwain.
